"Seven Simple Secrets" Staff Discussion
If you want the students to do well in your class and learn effectively, the instructor has to have a very high level of enthusiasm in the classroom. It is hard to do this each and every day, but the students can see right through someone who doesn't enjoy what they teach. I hope my students would rate me between a 9=10. I feel like I learn something new everyday!
ReplyDeleteI feel I'm an 8. Enthusiastic but not over the top and fake. I foster enthusiasm by being enthusiastic as well as encouraging thinking and creativity.
ReplyDeleteI would think my kids generally would rank me at an 8 or 9. I try to be enthusiastic but not over the edge, (most times)! Sometimes they think I've lost my rocker but that always keeps them on their toes. I foster enthusiasm be changing up what we do in classes daily and welcome them always with a smile!
ReplyDeleteI believe I am an 8. If a teacher lacks interest or enthusiasm in what he or she is teaching, the students will pick up on it. Students want a teacher who can keep the class involved and who cares in what is being taught and learned.
ReplyDeleteI would anticipate my students rating my enthusiasm somewhere between a 7 and 9, depending on when you asked them. I like to convey the fact I enjoy my subject and my job every day. Some days more than others, but I would hope they would see some type of enthusiasm, either towards the subject or something relative to the kids each and every day.
ReplyDeleteEnthusiasm is contagious, so I hope by interest in the FACS curriculum shows in my teaching. It is hard to rate oneself, but I think a 7-8 would catch most days. I try to think of new ways to present material or current topics to keep my enthusiasm up and spread it to my students.
ReplyDeleteI try to foster enthusiasm by making positive comments about my students writings. Sometimes I have to look a little ways but I can always find something to warrant praise. I also like to find humor in students writings or comments. Writing becomes sterile if you don't laugh about mistakes or find the lighter side. Allowing students to have definite and yet diverse opinions causes them to be more enthusiastic. You know how middle school students love to express themselves. Don't we all??
ReplyDeleteMost of my students would rate my enthusiasm a 7 or above...I think. I would hope that every student I teach understands how much I enjoy my job. When you love what you do, the enthusiasm follows. I also realize some students are not as enthusiastic about English or language arts as they are about other school subjects. That's when the teacher's enthusiasm might help! The ideal rating would be a 10. That would be difficult to maintain each and every day, but in perfect circumstances it would be "ideal." The bottom line is what I told a student just today...you have to let them know they are important to you and you care.
ReplyDeleteI would hope my students would rate me around 8-9, give or take. I really do enjoy teaching the subjects I teach, and I also really enjoy working with the students I have. I want the students to see that, but I don't want to be too over the top. For some of them that would be too much, sometimes being calm is the best thing, especially for students who struggle trying to focus. They are so well at reading moods, and if I am in a good mood, that helps them feel good too.
ReplyDeleteThat's a tough one. I hope I'm around a 7 or more. I think it's important to try new units/games to keep yourself fresh and energized. That is one thing I'm working on. Some days, I have let my "guard" down a little and that has helped me create a little more of a relaxed atmosphere, which has helped me be more enthusiastic.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely enthusiastic about new books, and would give myself a 9 or even 10! However, when teaching text structures I would probably be around a 6 or 7. I do think that your enthusiasm can be contagious, so its important that I have it regardless of the topic.
ReplyDeleteI would rate myself as a 9 or 10 when helping students choose books.
ReplyDeleteEnthusiasm is contagious. There have been so many days where the lessons plans have been thrown out the window when we get going on a piece and things are really starting to click and the kids know it. In order to create music together, the energy needs to flow in all directions not just from teacher to student.
ReplyDeleteI think they'd usually say 8 or so. I'm enthusiastic enough about my content that the kids usually think I'm dorky about it! Works for me!
ReplyDeleteThe kids would probably rate me at a 8-9. In PE, enthusiasm is very important for motivating the students and myself. I believe enthusiasm does rub off on our students and can do wonders for your classroom and career. The ideal rating is probably a 9, you don’t want to go over board.
ReplyDeleteI think the students would rate me a 9. I try to make Language Arts and Reading as interesting as possible. I try to use humor and my love of the English language to motivate the students to want to learn. Most of the time the students seem engaged and eager to contribute to our discussions. I feel that a rating of 9 leaves room for improvement. I want the students to understand that there is always something NEW out there to learn...
ReplyDeleteI really get excited about math and try to teach each of my four classes of math as if it is the first time I have taught it. I love to watch their faces and laughter as they see me explain with my quirky actions. I put myself on their level and try to talk as they would talk from my southern accent to my English voice. I catch them and get them right where I want them in the palm of my hand. I make fun of myself so they know it is OK to laugh at yourself. Math is fun.
ReplyDeleteI think my enthusiasm is good. Since they stay with me when I am in the classroom, I would say they rank me pretty high.
ReplyDeleteI believe my students would rate me at about an 8. I truly love what I teach and this shows when we are in the classroom. I try to incorporate interesting and meaningful ways of presenting information. The kids laugh at me when I sing the Electron Slide but they get the meaning.
